Pengertian Simple Past Tense dalam Bahasa Inggris
Simple past tense adalah pola tenses yang digunakan untuk menyebutkan kejadian di masa lalu, yang selesainya juga di masa lalu.
Simple past tense digunakan untuk menjelaskan kejadian yang sudah selesai dan pengalaman-pengalaman masa lalu.
Rumus Simple Past Tense
Tidak seperti dalam simple present, tidak ada perlakuan khusus terhadap subject tertentu dalam simple past tense. Semua subject mulai dari I sampai it menggunakan tanda verb yang sama.

Selain rumus di atas, simple past tense juga memiliki rumus nomina. Simple past tense nomina tidak mengandung verb (kata kerja), melainkan adjective (kata sifat)/ noun (kata benda, identitas). To be yang digunakan dalam simple past tense nomina bukanlah did, melainkan was/were.
